Buying the War

Photo of Bill MoyersBill Moyers had a special last night called “Buying the War” about the press’s failure leading up to the Iraq war. I don’t watch TV like normal people do so luckliy they posted it, so you can watch the video online.

I started watching it during my lunch break, and it’s really good, detailed, and hard hitting. Of course, little of it surprises me and it’s several years too late, but still I highly recommend it.

p.s. since it’s mostly lots of talking you can also just treat it like radio and listen to it while you work like I’m doing.

Internet radio death knell

I’m usually not one to sign internet petitions, but it does really seem like internet radio is in serious trouble here. I listen to a lot of it and I’d hate to see it die.

On March 2, 2007 the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB), which oversees sound recording royalties paid by Internet radio services, increased Internet radio’s royalty burden between 300 and 1200 percent and thereby jeopardized the industry’s future.

Without a doubt most Internet radio services will go bankrupt and cease webcasting if this royalty rate is not reversed by the Congress, and webcasters’ demise will mean a great loss of creative and diverse radio. Surviving webcasters will need sweetheart licenses that major record labels will be only too happy to offer, so long as the webcaster permits the major label to control the programming and playlist. Is that the Internet radio you care to hear?

Clickity Clackity Death Knell

My laptop hard drive finally clicked it’s last clack last night. Luckily, I had the presence of mind to back it up this weekend when it was showing signs of trouble.

As a result, this blog may be a bit on the quiet side while my laptop is in the shop.

The post to begin all posts

So I’m moving over from my livejournal to a full fledged WP blog finally. CatCubed.com used to house my basic freelance site with portfolio, which can still be seen here. I’m not actively seeking freelance at the moment, so I’m turning this domain into a blog.

Eventually, I’ll probably add back in my portfolio and other functionaly, but for now it’s just this borrowed theme and a basic WP install. As a result, visitors to this blog are bound to see a fair amount of flux as I experiment with the look and feel and functionality. However, don’t expect any drastic changes for a bit since most my limited freetime is going to massively overhauling the NifNaks.com site. I’m adding store functionality and completely redesigning the look and feel. I’m hoping to have it done in the next week or two.

This is the actual first post; however, I may end up back populating this blog with some of my fav lj posts. Oh yeah, if anyone actually reads this and has a clue about enabling some sort way of crossposting with lj let me know.
