So dolphins are the same species as whales. O.K. whatever. You still find genetic evidence of divergence amoungst species such as humans and chimps, you have a fossil record as well. We can fallow the evolution with the help of mtdna. We find that early humans and chimps interbred every once and a while (like wolves and coyotes).
